Interest in social impact has never been greater, and many professionals desire opportunities that align with their values. This panel highlights Columbia alumni at the helm of mission-driven organizations in San Diego that improve communities and advance equity, opportunity, and well-being.
Drawing on their work in the nonprofit and life science sectors, panelists will share their perspectives on the San Diego region’s unique needs as well as its social impact ecosystem. Their reflections and practical guidance will help attendees move from inspiration to action, with clear pathways to creating positive change.
Panelists:
Erica Halpern, Chief Executive Officer, Amplified Impact Partners (Columbia Business School, MBA, 2001)
Erica Halpern is the CEO of Amplified Impact Partners, a 501(c)(3) that provides pro bono consulting to San Diego nonprofits tackling pressing community issues. She draws on her background in business and the public sector to lead a network of 100 Partner consultants and staff who help nonprofits strengthen strategy, operations, governance, fundraising, and leadership. Previously, she worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in New York, including serving as COO of Investment Banking Services. Her experience also includes public-private partnerships – she helped launch the Presidio Trust in San Francisco – and served for a decade as a publicly elected Trustee of the Del Mar Union School District.
Alicia Quinn Kitagawa, Executive Director, Life Sciences Cares (Columbia University, MSSW - Social Enterprise Administration, 2012)
Alicia Kitagawa leads Life Science Cares San Diego, directing efforts to mobilize the region’s life sciences industry to combat poverty and expand pathways to prosperity. Previously, she served as Vice President of Strategy and Engagement at United Way of San Diego County, where she oversaw initiatives focused on education, financial stability, and workforce development. Her career also includes leadership roles at Mission Edge and Qualcomm, where she helped strengthen community partnerships, corporate social responsibility efforts, and nonprofit capacity-building initiatives.
